Well I finally managed to catch up with the NPWS Ranger, Tiffany, last week so now I can pass on to the group the latest on the state of things.

Its looking like Glenrock will play host to another Bike Demo Day, this time the Scott and Avanti fleet on Sunday the 29th April.
We have been contacted by both the NPWS and Scott/Avanti reps on the make up of the day. They are keen to work with the GTA in hosting the event and are currently looking at which trails to use as they want to specify a short loop that can be ridden in less than perfect conditions.

There has been some discussion about this elsewhere already, but I wanted to try and get all the ideas in one place so I’ve started a dedicated thread.
Ideally the entire trail network should be of a higher, more sustainable standard, and we are aiming for this. Every trail upgrade we do is meant to improve that standard so that trails shed water and are at least rideable soon after the rain stops. But this will take time.

As you may have seen in the meeting list, I have planned a Maintenance day for Saturday 17th March starting at 9am.
Details can be found here: http://glenrocktrailalliance.com/node/34638
Please help spread the word on the build day.
As stated in the meeting invite, the works will be maintenance like in that we won't be doing major reconstruction, just the much needed trail cleanup after weeks of bad weather. We will be looking at de-bermong, re-scollaping and fixing drainage and ruts.

NPWS have just advised that they will be beginning major works on High Roller and BJ’s today (Feb 24th), initially carting material to a stockpile, and then creating machine access through High Roller.
It is intended that High Roller will remain open to allow access to Suess Land and Shaft, but plkease use extreme caution due to machine movements and works.
BJ’s will be closed once works begin there. Most likely in the next week. IT is intended to undertake major reconstruction of the top section of BJ's where the trail has been rapidly deteriorating.

Just a heads up that it looks like NBN are running a piece on the news tonight about Glenrock. Mick and I both spoke over the phone to the reporter but really couldn't get a firm handle on the angle of the story.
It looks to be about the closure of the DH trails and will most likely be a pro DH piece. NBN have done them before. At late notice neither Mick or myself could make it for an interview but we have both had discussions on the phone. I had been on the way with Tiffany (NPWS) when the interview was pushed back which ruled me out.

Its been a bit quiet in here of late on the GTA front, but the new year is well and truly here. Look for some maintenance days in the near future.
I had a bit of a chat with the NPWS staff today and thought I would pass on what you can expect in the park in the short term this year.

Hey I still have a heap of the Glenrock & Roll T shirts, we need to move them and get the money back for trailwork.
Yes it looks like I did over-order so now we just want to get something back for them - $10 each
If you want more than one I'll do a deal on any bulk purchase.
Great for xmas, spread the Glenrock word and put some money back into the trails.
See GTA Merchandise for details or PM me.
Thanks Everyone,
Mick.

The NPWS will be conducting a burn-off in the area adjacent to Scenic Drive on Saturday the 22nd October. Burn time will be early in the morning.
The burn will take place near scenic drive and will likely impact on The top of ..It Happens and near Seuss
While the burn is on the area will be closed to all members of the public - mtb riders included, of course. Please respect any temporary trail closures.
Please spread the word about the trail closures.

The GTA now has a range of merchandise available to help raise funds for trail building efforts. You may have noticed at the open day that there were people sporting GTA Jerseys and Glenrock and Roll T'Shirts.
These are now all available for purchase. If you want to purchase any of these, send an email to Mick Plummer or send him a message through the site.

Thanks everyone who raced, and those who marshalled, and those who just came for a look at the inaugural Glenrock and Roll Hill Climb.
Massive thanks to the GTA Volunteers, to the HMBA guys who helped with setting the trail and timing, to our sponsors James Estate Wines, Crank DNA and Drift Bikes. Most of all, thanks to the NPWS for making it happen.
Anyway, the page everyone wants to see, the results.
If you have photos of the race, please put them in here http://glenrocktrailalliance.com/node/31830/gallery
If you have photos of the rest of the open day put them in here http://glenrocktrailalliance.com/node/30824/gallery

As a part of the Open Day festivities on October 15th the GTA will be holding a Time Trial Event to help raise funds for further trail works in the park.
Registration for the event will close at 1pm on the day of the event, with racing kicking off at 2pm. The race will have three categories Mens, Womens and Junior (U15). We hope to have prizes for the podiums as well as some random spot prizes as well.
The event will be a Time Trial format with riders departing at 1 min intervals. Thanks to HMBA we have secured the clubs DH timing system and personnel to run the timing.

If you've been up for a ride this week in the Gun Club area you will see that the yellow stakes have finally been replaced by the directional totem poles.
We have now staked the area around the depot, grass tree, fernleigh loop area and next up will be the trails running off the main management road.
The signage looks good, and hopefully we get it all completed over the coming few weeks.
Its been acknowledged that we may need to tweak the signage in a few areas, depending on how it all functions when in place, but those signs that are in look good.

As of yesterday afternoon you may start to notice small yellow stakes in the ground on the trails in the Gun Club Road Area.
Essentially, Mick, Tiffany and myself spent yesterday afternoon plotting out the exact locations of the signs so that NPWS staff can follow around with the totems and an auger to put them in place.
You'll see more pegs in place over the coming weeks, so don't panic when you see them, nothing bad is happening.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be holding an Open Day at Glenrock on Saturday the 15th of October.
They will be presenting the Plan of Management for Recreational Use in Glenrock and have invited park managers and dignitaries to come along and see what’s been happening here.
As part of the day local bike shops will be invited to put on displays as will the NPWS themselves.
We will be running tours of the official MTB trail network and hope to have a GTA display as well with merchandise available.

We finally got back to finish the Kenny's Chute today. About ten months after it was started!
Another huge effort with tons of rock to move. At least the weather was good to us with the rain holding off all day.
Some big rocks!

Those of you who have been up to Glenrock this week may have noticed the new signage is starting to hit the ground. This will be followed with the totum pole way markers around the park.

Work recommenced today on the Chute area of Kenny's trail. The B-Line had a few grade reversals reinstated while works began to the A-Line, a series of step downs on the old chute line.
A great turn out for what has to be the best weather we have had in weeks, so thanks to those who could make it.
The trail crew working hard.

And by ‘we’ I mean all of you that are reading this.

Well this trail is just the top of Snakes and Ladders but it does have it’s own character and is such a big job I thought it deserved it’s own post.
The trail here was very rutted and eroded, down to the bedrock in many places with numerous tree roots exposed. It is situated on top of a ridge line and so should have better drainage but the shape the trail has formed into was just one long deep rut with hardly a turn.

Today we made a start on Snakes and Ladders, beginning at the bottom. The overall intention here is to eliminate the erosion issues caused by the ‘ladder’ line and the steep switchback turns. Glen has designed a more flowing trail without steep grades and sharp turns, just this can make a big difference to the impact riders have on a trail. The turns will be more open ‘climbing turns’ and the trail will climb more steadily and wind the whole way, this will mean the overall trail will be longer and, for the meantime, generally smoother until it beds in and takes on it’s own character.

Today myself and the World Trail crew finished off the work on the tip site up to a standard. Ranger Tiffany wanted us to spend some more time there but NPWS don’t have the funding at the moment. Most of the main features are in and it will ‘ride in’ and get better.
After that we headed over to the corner of Scenic Drv. And did some work on the end of Seuss Land/Dr. Seuss.
NPWS wanted the area cleaned up and for us to consolidate the main line. The trail was braided, going everywhere, and erosion had become a real problem.
